Derek Frye

Derek Justin Frye, 51, of Jasper, passed away Thursday August 18, 2022, at Brookwood Medical Center.

Being blessed with such a caring and serving heart as Derek was a large part of his career was spent in public service. He began working with Regional Paramedical Services in 2003 where he dedicated 19 years of service. Throughout his employment, Derek has served as a communications specialist, communications supervisor, and crew member. Recognizable by his caring heart and distinct voice, Derek was known throughout RPS, and the agencies associated with the company. Mostly fond of his South Group Crews (Shelby, Chilton, Hoover, and Homewood); Derek had a huge heart for those around him. He was that special voice behind the radio that could walk you through most any road in the RPS footprint. From Hackleburg across to Ragland, on down to Isabella, and back up to Bremen; he had you covered. And often times, it came with his own unique set of directions; such as turning by an old oak tree and watching out for the Jersey cow that likes to stand in the middle of the road. Through Derek’s service, dedication, and the smile on his face; the world and those around him are now a better place. Derek was also an avid Auburn Football fan and enjoyed giving his Bama friends heck.

Family will receive friends on Monday August 22, 2022, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm in the Freeman-Hood Chapel with a graveside service following at 2:00 pm at Curry Cemetery.  Wayne Abbott will officiate.

Derek is preceded in death by his father Charles Frye; mother Neva Faye Frye; brother Christopher Frye.

He is survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
