Mrs. Evelyn Glasgow Bevis was called to meet Jesus on Tuesday, January 17, 2024, at Walker Baptist Medical Center. Evelyn was born on January 2, 1936, in Lamar County, Alabama to the Rev. William and Omie Newell Glasgow.
Evelyn played piano for her dad at churches all over Alabama and Mississippi. Later she served as pianist and organist at First Freewill Baptist Church in Jasper for over fifty years. She and her husband Ray were active in the Gideon ministry for over fifty years. She made many friends in her career in the business office at People’s Hospital and Walker Baptist Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Omie Glasgow; husband Grady Ray Bevis; sisters Mary Helen Glasgow, Jewell Lucas, Jean Gosa, and Linda Garrison; and brothers Sherman Glasgow and Jackie Glasgow.
She is survived by her daughter Angela Bevis; grandchildren Aislinn Tudor (Benn Kerr), Seth Edgil (Reegan Walker), and Rylee Taylor; sisters Edgilee Bobo (Hulon), Brenda Estes, and Janice Salters (David); brothers Junior Glasgow (Ellen), Edward Glasgow ( Glenda), Danny Glasgow (Ann), and Macky Glasgow; sister-in-law Clarice Glasgow; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services: Visitation will be held Monday, January 22, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Sam Hood Memorial Chapel, with funeral services following at 12:00 PM. Burial will be at Walker Memory Gardens. Kenneth Salters will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Samaritan’s Purse or the Gideon Ministry.
