Mr. James R. “Pop” Sanders Sr., 91, of Jasper, passed away on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at Huntsville Hospital. Freeman Hood Funeral Services has been entrusted with his care.

James was a deacon for many years at Blooming Grove Baptist Church, he also served as a greeter for the church, welcoming everyone with a smile each Sunday morning. And was a faithful member of the praise team and also the S.W.A.T. team (Seniors With A Testimony). His greatest joy in life was the love he had for his family, church, and the Lord. He always made sure to tell Nannette he loved her forever and always each day. He was also a veteran and served in the Army during the Korean War.

 Mr. Sanders is preceded in death by his father Gus Franklin Sanders; mother Jessie Elizabeth Foster; sisters Mildred Watkins, Myrlee Newman, and Marie Kratohvil; and grandson James Rayford Sanders III.

 He is survived by his loving wife of 28 years Nannette Mills Sanders; sons Jimmy Sanders (Michelle), Don Sanders (Gwen), Bruce Sanders, Rodney Cain, and Randall Cain; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special nephew Kevin Farley; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

 Services: Visitation will be held Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Blooming Grove Baptist Church, with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 PM. J.D. Dickerson will officiate. Burial will be at Walker Memory Gardens.
